Philip Brain Associates were formed in 1994 and have been at the forefront of promoting competence-based assessment within the quarrying industry during that time. PBA have been instrumental in implementing & quality assuring large multi-site assessment schemes for S/NVQs in Plant Operations & Process Operations at level 2 for many of the UK quarry operators.
PBA are the most established assessment provider for SHE management S/NVQs in the UK mineral processing industries. Our dedicated network of assessors have a wealth of practical experience in quarry management & mineral operations both in the UK and abroad. PBA were the consultants commissioned by the Institute of Quarrying to write the standards used as the basis for these qualifications. As such we are committed to consistently delivering S/NVQs of the highest quality to our clients

The Quarrying Regulations 1999 require competence to be consistently demonstrated, is understood to be key in reducing accidents and is high on the HSE's agenda (see SIM 03/2005/15).
Managers in this industriy must demonstrate personal competence and that of their workforce. NVQs are ideal, as they require candidates to undertake real, competence-based assessments within the workplace, without the need for classroom sessions or exams. NVQs are highly relevant to the candidate and their daily working environment and are nationally recognised and based on the national industry standards and best practice

NVQs are available in most job roles and at 5 levels. We offer a comprehensive range of qualifications - all of which are relevant to the quarrying & mineral extraction industries and are certificated by MPQC Awarding Body & OCR.
In addition Philip Brain associates can also provide bespoke courses, which cover the knowledge requirements for the NVQs in Health, Safety & Environmental Management. These courses provide a solid foundation for those intending to work towards the NVQ.
Philip Brain Associates specialise in the training & assessment of Assessors & Verifiers for the UK quarrying industry and have extensive experience in setting up in-house schemes for companies.
We are also pleased to be able to offer tailored CPD events for in-house assessment & verification teams. Using our experience of assessment & verification within the industry and best practice, drawing on our extensive experience working along with the a number of Awarding Bodies.
