Who We Are
Philip Brain Associates Ltd provide vocational competence consultancy & assessment to a number of major UK quarrying companies. This activity has also included writing and amending the National Occupational Standards for Quarrying Health, Safety & Environmental Management qualifications at the request of the Institute of Quarrying which later went on to become NVQs at levels 3, 4 & 5. In 2002 Philip Brain Associates became an MPQC (formerly EMP & EPIC) approved centre to deliver qualifications within the sector. In 2010 Philip Brain Associates launched Channel Island Assessments to deliver sector specific qualifications overseas.
Founder and MD
Philip Brain is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials Minerals & Mining, a Fellow of the Minerals Engineering Society, A Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and is a Chartered Environmentalist and Incorporated Engineer.
Having initially qualified as an industrial chemist, Philip has worked for a number of quarrying & building materials producers at various levels of managerial responsibility within the UK and overseas as Chief Technical Officer of the Nigerian Mining Corporation.
Philip was Production Director of two building materials companies in North Wales & the Midlands and in 1994 formed Philip Brain Associates. Philip is a qualified assessor, internal verifier and external verifier.
Gavin Brain is a Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and currently participates in the IQ Council. Gavin started assessing vocational qualifications in 1998 and specialises in the development of assessors and verifiers working in practical contexts within heavy industry. Gavin is also a qualified Internal Verifier and External Verifier, having worked with a number of Awarding Organizations.
Philip Brain Associates Ltd have forged strong links with the Institute of Quarrying and are working in partnership to deliver the latest IQ qualification - IQ Academy Level 3 VQ Certificate in Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Knowledge exclusively in England & Wales.
Karen Brain is a qualified Dental Nurse having worked in a number of practices for several years. Karen took time off from work to become a full time mother to her three children and returned to work in the 1990's firstly as a teaching assistant in a Primary School and latterly as our office manager. Karen is a fundamental part of our business. She is responsible for customer care, finance and office management.
Our team of assessors have a wealth of experience both in assessment but also operations within the industry both in the UK & abroad. The team gives us the ability to offer MPQC Awarding Organisation vocational qualifications all over England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland.
